How to Care for Your Jewellery

Silver Jewellery

If you care for your jewellery it will remain as stunning as the day you bought it for years to come. I’ve compiled some tips for keeping your earrings, bangles and pendants looking their best.

5 easy ways to keep your silver jewellery at its best:

Make accessorising the last finishing touch. Choose your jewellery after you have applied make-up, perfume and other cosmetics.

Do not swim or shower in your jewellery.

Remove your jewellery before exercising

Avoid direct sunlight, sand and saltwater.

Store your silver pieces in a Jewellery box

Cleaning your sterling silver jewellery

Plain Silver jewellery can be washed in warm water with a mild detergent. Completely dry with a soft lint free or nonabrasive cloth before storing. Please don’t use your kitchen paper towel to dry your jewellery as this can scratch the silver.

Specialist silver polishing cloths are also ideal companions to your jewellery. 100% cotton infused with special silver cleaners. These silver cloths will help bring your jewellery back to life on a daily basis, essentially lifting off dirt, grease and fingerprints.

How to store your silver jewellery.

Sterling Silver should be stored somewhere cool, dark and moisture-free such as a jewellery box or even in a little airtight Ziplock bags or soft pouches and always store them separately as they can scratch each other. Also, those little bags of Silica you get with new items such as handbags, these are great moisture zappers so pop a couple in your jewellery box.

Give your jewellery a little love with our silver polishing cloth after wearing and before putting away.

Fasten all of your chains to stop them getting tangled, always fasten any extender chains on the last hole.

Silver that is regularly used typically needs less care, so a great reason to wear your beautiful pieces regularly.

Gold and Platinum Jewellery

If treated well gold and platinum jewellery will shine for years.

Avoid Chlorine, household cleaners with acids or abrasives. These will damage your jewellery’s finish.

Put your jewellery on last when getting ready: makeup, perfume, hairspray, and lotions (cosmetics in general) can damage your jewellery. Be sure to put these things on before your jewellery to limit their exposure.

Take jewellery off before bathing. Wearing jewellery while you bathe can lead to a build-up of soap which will cause a film on your jewellery.

Regular cleaning tips for your gold jewellery.

When worn regularly, your gold or platinum jewellery is exposed to skin oils, perspiration, dust, makeup, and more. To keep their shine, you should clean your jewellery regularly with a solution of 10-parts warm water and 2-parts liquid soap.

Soaking is the key. You should soak your gold jewellery pieces for a few hours and then scrub them gently with a very soft brush. Rinse under clean water and blot dry with a cloth.

Use a jewellery polishing cloth after cleaning. Do not use a paper towel or tissue as these can scratch your jewellery.

How to store your gold jewellery.

Use a jewellery box. A clean, dry, fabric-lined jewellery box is the best option.

Wrap each piece in a soft cloth: If you don’t have a jewellery box, save those free phone screen clothes and use the extras to wrap each piece of your jewellery individually.

Store pieces separately: this prevents the jewellery from tangling or scratching each other.
